Object Name Dress
Description Long white muslin dress, Sized for a short, small woman. Lace and embroidered scroll design stitched to fabric. Waist measures 60 cm. Neckline is square to v-shape with lace and embroidered, heavy scroll design trim. Neck at back comes to a v-shape. This heavy design decorates the neck and comes down the front of the bodice. Gathered 3/4 length sleeves with 5.5 cm lace trim of a different pattern. Around the waist is a 4 cm wide band. The skirt of the dress is sewn in three panels in front and back, gathered at waist. The skirt is narrow around the hips and extends fuller to hem. From the waist down (33 cm) is plain, than a border of matching heavy embroidery design (12 cm thick) stitched to fabric. Extending down from this is an insert (15 cm deep) of fine lace which is edged by another 12 cm thickness of embroidery design stitched to fabric. Below this is another 14 cm of plain material. The only closing on the dress is two hooks and two tiny snaps on the left side at the waistline. Down the back is a center seam to waist. Under the dress where the lace is sewn is a lining of fine net, yellow in color.

Provenance Dress belonged to donor's grandmother. Original accession sheet, dated October 1972 states that dress is 125 years old. Possibly a wedding dress.
