Summary |
In 1890, Edward Mahon arrived in B.C. to act as a business agent for his older brother. His business ventures soon expanded from real estate to speculation in mining, predonimantly in the kootenay district. In conjunction with smelter baron F.A. Heinze, Edward laid out a plan for the development of a showcase city that would commemorate Castlegar, his family homestead in County Galway. These plans collapsed and he went on to more success in shaping the growth of north Vancouver. His lasting legacy, however, was his vision of green spaces that circumscribe the city core. These have been named The Green Necklace, a living testimonial to Edward's foresight. The book also traces the life of his artistically-gifted wife, Lilette, who was mentored by Emily Carr. |
