Private Sydney T. Ball 442328 Born May 29th, 1880 in Tisbury, Wilts, England. Came to Canada and to BC circa 1908. Lived with wife at 15 Gore Street in Nelson; worked as a labourer. Religion was Roman Catholic. Enlisted with the 54th Battalion at Vernon Camp on May 29th, 1915. Left Canada on November 22nd, and arrived in England on December 1st. Arrived in France on August 14th, 1916. Served as a bandsman with the 54th Battalion, A Company. Played with the bugle band. Suffered from foot infection in January, 1917. Attached to CCCC (Canadian Corps Composite Company) for some time. The CCCC was a unit of men who were unfit for active duty at the front, and so were attached to Corps Headquarters for employment. He earned a Good Conduct Badge in the field on May 29th 1917. Was attached to the 7th Canadian Area Employment Company on August 23rd, 1917. Status of feet worsened. Suffered from bronchitis in February 1918. Suffered from influenza some time in 1919. Demobilized on July 14th, 1919. Employed as a municipal worker by the City of Nelson for 35 years, until retirement in 1949. Lived in New Westminster for 4 months before death. Died on March 12th, 1964 in Vancouver; 85 years old. Known family: Wife - Edna Frances Ball (nee Heasell); Daughter - Marie Ball. |
