Private J.J. Channing Likely: Private John James Chamney 443217 Born December 10th, 1880 in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. Lived in Nelson with wife; worked as a clerk and sawmill worker. Enlisted on July 12th, 1915 at Vernon Camp with the 54th Battalion. Suffered from a hernia throughout July and August. Left Canada on November 22nd and arrived in England on December 1st. Arrived in France on August 14th, 1916. Contracted trench fever in July, 1917. Suffered from pyrexia (a catch-all term for fever) throughout August, 1918. Contracted influenza in April, 1919. Suffered from myalgia as well. Suffered from rheumatic fever in June while serving with the B.C. Regimental Depot. Invalided to Canada in September 1919. Issued a War Service badge, class A. Discharged on October 9th, 1919 in Vancouver by reason of medical unfitness. Married Elizabeth Jones (nee McNabola) in Vancouver on August 18th, 1932. Died April 7th, 1936 in Vancouver; 59 years old. |
