Corporal George Walter Amos 443202 Born June 22nd, 1882 in North Keppel, Ontario. Lived in there as a teamster. Religion was Presbyterian. Enlisted with the 54th Battalion at Vernon Camp, on June 8th, 1915. Canada November 22nd, and arrived in England on December 1st 1915. Arrived in France the following March. Received shrapnel wound to right cheek in May, 1917. Suffered from jaundice throughout January, 1918. Served with the Canadian Engineer Reinforcement Depot (CERD) in April and May, 1918. Had the rank of sapper (engineer rank) within that unit. Promoted to Corporal in 1919. Demobilized July 11th, 1919 in Toronto, Ontario. In total, he had served roughly four years; twenty-six months of which were spent in France. He married Maude Hedley Williams sometime after the war. Moved to British Columbia circa 1923. Retired in 1947 after working 25 years as a teamster. Moved to Cranbrook circa 1961. Died on September 28th 1962, in Cranbrook; 80 years old. Known family: Parents – Alexander Amos and Margaret Amos (nee McDougal); Wife – Maude Hedley Amos (nee Williams); Daughter – Isabel Amos (married surname unknown). |
